Chickenpox was once considered a rite of passage for most children. The red, itchy rash is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which is part of a group of viruses called herpesviruses. Because chickenpox is so contagious, 90% of a patient's family also will develop the illness if they live in the same house and are not already immune. About one of every 100 children infected with chickenpox will develop a severe lung infection (pneumonia), an infection of the brain (encephalitis), or a problem with the liver.

A child infected with the virus normally develops an average of five hundred itchy blisters. These blisters grow from red-colored spots on the skin and contain fluids. After a time they burst, creating crust-like deformities on the affected skin. They show up first on the skin, after which they spread over to other parts of the body, such as the scalp and trunk. The day after they appear, the fuids turn cloudy and, eventually, scabby.

As I have said earlier, chicken pox has few symptoms. Some of them may not even be noticeable. The first signs of chicken pox set off very sudden and there are cases when the chicken pox patient will actually have no symptoms at all. A mild fever, some weakness and tiredness are the first chicken pox symptoms that you will feel, after the incubation period is over. Soon after this signs of chicken pox, a rash will start to appear on your skin. At first only some areas of your body will be affected by these tiny, red spots.

A treatment for chicken pox is not always necessary. If the patient is isolated in a cold room this infection may disappear within a week. Warm places can cause an even harder to take itchiness. If the infection develops into a more serious one treatment is highly recommended. Doctors are able to prescribe it, and they usually prescribe acyclovir, the specific treatment for this kind of infection.

Some parts of your child' s body are more likely to be affected by chicken pox than others. The chest and upper part of your child' s back are the ares where the rash will first appear. However, chicken pox may affect your whole body, even the mouth. These are more rare cases of chicken pox, but they can exist.

As many of you know, chicken pox is a children' s disease, that only affects a small number of adults. So, because it affects children, aspirin should under no circumstances, be used in children that suffer from chicken pox. The reason is very simple, aspirin increase the risk of developing Reye' s symdrom, which is life- threatening. So, for the fever that is caused by chicken pox or any other conditions that affect children, use ipubrofen instead.

Chicken pox, as any other contagious disease, is contracted if getting in direct contact with the persons infected. The virus that causes chicken pox, called varicella, also spreads through air, causing the rash development. The other way of catching chicken pox is to get in contact with shingles.

Chicken pox is an infection that spreads from person to person by direct contact or through the air from an infected person's coughing or sneezing. Touching the fluid from a chicken pox blister can also spread the disease. A person is contagious 1-2 days before the rash appears and until all blisters have formed scabs. This may take between 5-10 days. It takes from 10-21 days after contact with an infected person for someone to develop the disease.

Chicken pox is a common, but very contagious disease. Usually this disease effects children, but adult cases do happen and are then known as shingles. So, what is chicken pox? The illness, medically known as Varicella, is a common viral infection. When your child catches this illness, it causes a rash on the skin. Chicken pox occurs mostly in winter and spring, but can happen any time of the year. Because it is so contagious, children often pass it from child to child during the school year. Again, though, it is a year round illness.

Secondary Infection and Scarring may also appear; small scars usually remain after the falling of the scabs but this doesn't last long, the scars clearing up after a few month. In the case of itching there is an all other problem, Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria sometimes causing infection in the patient.

Chicken Pox home remedy treatment can be achieved by using Oatmeal. A bath of oatmeal is considered one of the best natural remedies for relieving the itching sensation caused by chicken pox. The bath can be prepared by cooking two cups of oatmeal in two liters of water for fifteen minutes. Put the mixture into a cloth bag and tie a string tightly around the top of the bag. Allow the bag to float around a tub of warm water. Swish the bag around the water until it becomes turbid. Be careful to make sure the bag does not tear.
